9/12/07 - BJJ - Matt

Most everyone is going to the tournament so we worked a little on takedowns.

If they grab your lapel:

  • Grab their sleeve above and below their wrist
  • Squat down and as you stand back up, push their wrist/arm down
  • Pull them towards your right hip
  • Put your shoulder into their back/shoulder and drive them forward
  • As they push back up, put your left leg behind them and change directions
  • As they come up you follow them and sit down to your side
  • End in side control or mount
We also worked on the basic hip throw.

We then worked on the Ezekiel type choke and double arm bar from mount.

We tried to roll a lot but it didn't seem like long. That could be because I started rolling with a 14 year old kid who I was obviously taller than and out weighed. This was nice though because I actually got to work on my submissions a lot more this way.

I then rolled with Joe. He's a beast! I did real well though. I need to learn a sweep from 1/2 guard and practice it.

I then rolled with Matt. He reminded me to pull on their head to annoy and wear them out. I really need to remember this. It cal also be done from knee on the belly.

I really just need to roll as much as I can.

Last night was aslo the first night I got to roll in my new Gi. I loved it! It fits so nicely. I thought the seam down the back would be annoying but I didn't even notice it. I dont know if it made me sweat more or if it was just less absorbent. I didn't get to try the pants yet because they need to be hemmed and possibly taken in.
